Barbara Christy Authors Article Regarding Proposed Ethics Opinion

Barbara R. Christy, a member of the Schell Bray Real Estate Practice Group, recently authored an article entitled “Gone to Carolina in My Mind”, discussing the varying approaches taken by states that have addressed ethical issues faced by attorneys contemplating participation in Avvo Legal Services or similar online platforms. The North Carolina State Bar has published for comment an ethics opinion that, if approved, may make North Carolina the first state to conditionally approve participation.  The article is published in the September 2017 edition of ACREL Notes.

Barbara Christy’s practice focuses on commercial real estate transactions. Ms. Christy assists clients in all aspects of the acquisition and disposition of commercial real property, including preparation of contracts, due diligence, review and negotiation of loan documents, examination of title, 1031 exchange issues and closing. Jennifer Koenig & Paul Livingston Speak with High Point Community Foundation Donors

Jennifer Koenig and Paul Livingston, members of the Schell Bray Trust and Estates Practice Group, spoke with the High Point Community Foundation donors on Wednesday night, September 20th.  Estate planning "Beyond the Numbers" was the topic.  The discussion focused on the decision making process families should follow with respect to several issues that are extremely important for an effective estate plan, yet are not driven by estate tax planning.

Jennifer Koenig counsels clients on issues ranging from simple wills and powers of attorney to very complex estate planning and wealth preservation techniques, including GRATs (grantor retained annuity trusts), limited liability companies (LLCs), complex charitable planning, and succession planning for family-owned businesses.  She enjoys helping her clients work through the estate planning process and the estate administration process after a loved one dies.  She also has extensive experience representing charitable organizations and corporate fiduciaries.

Paul Livingston draws on many years of experience to counsel families on their estate planning options for efficiently transitioning wealth to younger generations and to explore and achieve the family's philanthropic goals.  He works extensively with nonprofits and serves as counsel to a number of public charities and private foundations, advising them on tax and governance matters.  Mr. Livingston has a special interest in succession planning for private foundations.
